I  visited Lake Galletly recently for an afternoon of photography, and also to try for the Lewin's Rail reported recently. Lake Galletly, on the University of Queensland campus near Gatton, has two excellent bird hides and normally has large numbers of ducks, particularly Pink-eared and Plumed Whistling Ducks. Recently, Blue-billed Ducks have been very reliable here and have bred. Sadly, I only saw one duckling, which suggests a high mortality rate.
