The Yanks and Russians are withdrawing from Melbourne
A hard day's birding ... and yes, 'twitching' also, in Melbourne today. It was a rare outing for us, my son and me, as we met friends Scott and Mervyn down at Pt Cook.
It was also perhaps the last day that the yanks and Russians would still be in Melbourne: the vagrant American Golden Plover took a few hours and some professional help to find. The Broad-billed Sandpiper, along with dapper Curlew Sands and Red-necked Stints are soon to take flight and head to Siberia to breed.
It was great to see another new person birding ... Merv's just started (though by the size of his camera and his enthusiasm, you wouldn't think so). His photos are incredible ... and deserve a look here.
