Spotted Nightjars hide in plain view...

Bruce Wedderburn and I spent a damp morning spent seeking (successfully) Spinifexbird, Rufous-crowned Emu Wren and Dusky Grasswren close to Alice in the East MacDonnell Ranges. On our return to the car we flushed a beautiful Spotted Nightjar which fluttered only a few metres then stood on the ground calling. Figuring there could be a nest nearby we looked around our feet and were shocked to discover a single little chick hiding in the open- we nearly trod on it! We snapped a quick picture and moved off to let the worried mum return to her pride and joy. What a great little find
